Deny event access

Deny access provides a stronger control than cancellation when someone should be blocked from registering for an event.

At a glance

  • Who it affects: Event managers and stakeholders managing eligibility, compliance, or attendance limits

  • Where to find it: Event → AudienceUsers (subscribers) (then Actions menu)

  • Prerequisites: Audience admin permissions; hybrid mode options appear only for hybrid events; Marketo notes apply only if integration is set up

What changed

  • Admins can deny access to users from the event’s audience management view.

  • Denied users are blocked from re-registering unless access is restored.

  • For hybrid events, denial can apply to all modes or only the current mode.

How it works

  • Deny removes the user’s registration and applies a block to prevent re-registration.

  • Reverse deny removes the block (restores eligibility), but does not automatically re-register the user.

How to use it

Deny access

  1. Open the event and go to Audience → Users (subscribers).

  2. Select the user(s) you want to deny.

  3. Choose Deny access from the actions menu.

  4. For hybrid events, choose whether to block all attendance modes or only the current mode.

  5. Confirm.

Restore access (Reverse deny)

  1. Open the event and go to Audience → Users → Cancellations.

  2. Find the denied user (Type shows Denied).

  3. Click Reverse deny.

Notes (integrations, reporting, permissions)

  • Cancellations table + export: The Cancellations tab supports export to CSV and includes deny vs voluntary cancellation information.

  • Marketo (if enabled): Deny and reverse deny update the user’s program status so campaigns can exclude or re-include them.

  • Reverse deny doesn’t re-register: It only restores eligibility; the user must register again.

  • Hybrid nuance: If you deny only one mode, consider whether attendee communications should clarify the remaining available mode(s).

FAQ

What’s the difference between Deny and Unsubscribe? Unsubscribe/cancel usually allows the user to register again later. Deny blocks re-registration until reverse deny.

Can I deny someone for only in-person or only remote? Yes, for hybrid events.
